Pass the Rock S2- Ep. 6: The ascension of Tyrese Maxey

Sixers star Tyrese Maxey opens up about his NBA journey as he makes his first All-Star Game appearance.

To get where you want to go, you have to work for it.

This is a message that Tyrese Maxey personifies.

“I was kind of under the radar, I didn’t get recognition so I wanted to always keep grinding,” Maxey said.

Maxey describes what motivates him to improve in the sixth episode of Pass The Rock: Season 2. The episode, presented by New Balance, streams on the NBA App on Monday.

The 76ers guard goes in-depth on his desire to be great. He credits his big family for always being in his corner and pushing him to be the best he can be.

“My dad always told me to find ways to get 1% better,” Maxey said.

Maxey, who was the 21st pick in the 2020 Draft out of Kentucky, aims to reward the city that took a chance on him and the fans that support him every day. He does this on the court, but in the community as well.

“My grandmother’s biggest wish for me was to be somebody that people can rely on … and feel like they have a bond to,” Maxey said.

Combining his drive with an ultra-competitive nature is a recipe for success, one that helped Maxey get named to his first All-Star team last month.

“A lot of people said I couldn’t do it … no one ever said he will be an All-Star, but the people in my corner never doubted me and only pushed me to be better,” Maxey said.

The first five episodes of the second season of Pass The Rock focused on Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton and New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson

Future episodes will feature Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.
